Category: Navigation Cost: $2.99 Details: Discover your surroundings with Vicinity. Uses Apple’s Core Location API (GPS, Skyhook WiFi database or cell tower triangulation) to determine the current location and then ranks services and amenities (banks, pubs, cafes, shops, taxis, takeaways) by their distance from the user. Can also pull in information from Wikipedia to show entries on nearby attractions as well as photographs geotagged at that location from Flickr. App Store URL

Twinkle
Category: Social Networking Cost: Free Details: Twinkle, the location-aware social network for iPhone. Allows users to primarily interact through the proprietary Twinkle social network which ties into to popular microblogging service Twitter. Bolts on support for photo uploading (attached to status updates) and automatically tags all updates with the users’ location (subject to permission).
