PREPARING FOR EMERGENCIES:

The most likely emergencies to strike the Sioux City Stake are severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding,
severe storms, terrorist attack, loss of power, and fuel shortage.

Members are first encouraged to take direction from civil authorities during any emergency.

Ward Welfare Committees will review and report annually to the high councilor assigned to the
ward/branch progress toward encouraging members to acquire a year’s supply of food, clothing, and fuel
and to prepare for the expected emergencies through:

 Sacrament meeting talks under the direction of the bishop.
 Melchizadek Priesthood quorum emphasis during lessons and home teaching.
 Relief Society lessons and Enrichment meetings and activities.
 Young Men emphasis during scouts, activities, and lessons
 Young Women emphasis during activities, lessons, and camp.
 Ward dry pack canning trips
Group buys with the stake Preparedness specialist.

Annual Reports will be due in September each year and may vary in content. Areas include:
 14 day supply of water
    72 hour kits
    1 month of food
    6 months of food
    1 year of food

Ward welfare committees should also review, update, and report to the high councilor at least annually:

 The accuracy of the ward address list, phone list, cell phone list, and map of all member homes.
 Who has been assigned to assist each family who may not be able to care for themselves.
 Those in the ward with special skills or equipment who could be helpful in an emergency.
 The method of communication to be used in the ward and to the stake if telephones are out.
 The approach used to inform less active members of plans in the ward to respond to an emergency.

The Stake welfare committee will review annually:

 Ward plans based on reports from high councilors.
 Annual reports from the wards/branches.
 Methods for communication with the wards and with the chairman of the regional welfare
committee through the regional communications specialist Brother Sorensen
       if telephones are not working.
 Methods for communication with the bishop’s storehouse 402-891-1577 if telephones are not
