“It keeps me sane”

Women Craft Wellbeing with Dr Enza Gandolfo and A/Prof Marty Grace Dr Enza Gandolfo and A/Prof Marty
Grace of Victoria University conducted research with amateur women craftmakers, focusing on what
craftmaking means to women. Many of the women find therapeutic value in their craft, and say it keeps them
sane. In this workshop, we will show the short film that we made as part of our research, and we will have
copies of our book for sale. The workshop will combine opportunities for working with textiles and/or writing.
Participants will be invited to reflect on what keeps them sane and to create something – a piece of writing, a
sketch, or a small textile project such as a cushion cover or a wall hanging. We will provide some fabrics,

“Dramatherapy in the Criminal Justice System” Experiential lecture with Patrick Tidmarsh

Patrick is sure to entertain as well as inform and educate attendees with an exciting blend of theory, evidence,
anecdote and experiential exercises. With decades of experience working in Youth Justice, Victoria Police,
Corrections and the AFL, Patrick shares current developments in the prevention and treatment of sexual
offending from the perspective of a dramatherapist working in the criminal justice system.

Psychodrama – An introduction to action methods with Julie Lacy

In these introductory workshops participants will experientially learn foundation elements of psychodrama and
how action methods can be utilised to enhance creativity and spontaneity. The sessions offer a brief window
into psychodrama as a modality. Focus will be given to play, and to developing connections through identifying
roles and role relationships. In Workshop Two focus will also be given to exploring story, myth and metaphor as
a means to engage with Self and others. The spontaneity of group members will determine content. Julie Lacy,
MA, Ad Dip Art, Dip Psychodrama & Group Analysis, is registered as a Practitioner Member with the British
Psychodrama Association & UK Council for Psychotherapy. She is a psychodrama psychotherapist, trainer,
educator and writer. Since 1991 she has worked in the UK and Australia as a therapist, facilitator, and lecturer
in prisons, hospitals, schools, organizations and universities. She was the founding director of London Playback
Theatre and is a practitioner member with the International Playback Theatre Network. She lectures at La Trobe
University where she runs an Introduction to Psychodrama course in the Master of Art Therapy Program. Julie
also works as a Group Program Facilitator for Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service. She has an
individual private practice in Melbourne and offers psychodrama group sessions.

Participants will take home a signed copy of “Bereaved Mother’s Heart”, described by Cathy Moon as “an
aesthetically beautiful book that comes across as heart-felt and genuine. What a gift to those who are struggling

background to her book, “Bereaved Mother’s Heart” and invites participants to engage in creative responding to
the images and text.

The workshop will become a living experience of arts based inquiry, with group members acquiring first hand
knowledge of the potential of the arts in exploring, discovering, responding and knowing. The workshop will
include training in using some of the creative activities described in the therapeutic notes section of the book,
and utilizing these types of activities for self or others.
