Dear Natural Horse Trainer, 802 353-6540
Spring Hill Horse Rescue will be hosting our annual Natural Horsemanship Equine Challenge
(NHEC)! The NHEC is an educational program Spring Hill created three years ago to promote
safe, humane horse handling techniques as a means to prevention of horse abuse and
slaughter, as well as keeping humans too. This event will be held in conjunction with our annual
Birthday Bash (adopter/horse fun day) at our facility in Clarendon, Vermont (5 miles South of
Rutland).
In the past NHEC participants would get a rescued, untrained horse 3 months prior to the actual
event. During this time trainers would house and work with their assigned horse and show the
progress they made in a competition type setting. Our NHEC committee members have decided
that this year’s event would be run differently as follows:
Spring Hill will invite adopters to enroll their horse in the program rather than purchase
untrained horses. Horses will vary from problematic behavior to unstarted youngsters.
NHEC will be a weekend event in its entirety; there is no long term commitment.
Enrolled trainers will draw a number and select the horse they would like to work
with in order of the number drawn.
Trainers will have a time slot to work with the horse in front of the audience but will have
their off time to work with the horse as well.
Trainers will be able to show the final product demonstration style on the following day.
Spring Hill has rescued and adopted over 500 horses in the past 7 years. Our adopters are
from all over the Northeast including New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New
Hampshire, Rhode Island and other states down the coast. Many of our adopted horses are
young PMU horses and their owners are most likely open to guidance in training their
youngsters. Participating trainers will have the opportunity to demonstrate their methods and
workmanship with the potential for gaining new clients as well as helping Spring Hill promote
healthy, humane horse ownership. Spring Hill will be advertising this event through various
media and publications.
The Natural Horsemanship Equine Challenge is scheduled for the weekend of August 25 th –
26th, 2007. Participating trainer spots are limited so please RSVP as soon as possible. If you
have any questions or would like more detail, contact me directly on my cell phone: (802) 353-
6540.
Thank you for your consideration.
