Acclaimed actor and dancer Fred Astaire was known to have little taste for social dancing although every woman he ever met socially longed to dance with him. One cannot know what pleasure his dancing gave Astaire but it can be said that he was less interested in dancing per se than in overall dance performance, at which, the world has long since come to agree, nobody ever did it better.
