The Gift of Giving by ProQuest

Uplift, called for by outspoken African Americans nearly since they arrived on these shores, continues to take place in many forms and venues, including the giving circles described in our Up Front section, the countless parishioners contributing tithes to their various places of worship, the folks who volunteer or serve as mentors, and the thousands of everyday citizens propelling Barack Obama's historic presidential campaign with donations as small as $25. Black Enterprise magazine has reported that, on average, Black households give $1,614 annually to their favorite causes, and that's not counting tithing.
