Creating a harmonious employee group begins with a conscious leader witting to access his or her heart space. Compensation and compassion are the two reasons people come to work. People generally seek to receive the highest compensation for their skill set but more and more important as time goes on, people need and require to be shown compassion at work. Compassion is the sympathetic consciousness of others distress together with a desire to alleviate it. The author recently had an experience with an employee that escalated into what one co-worker called "Defcon 5." Working backwards the event occurred as follows. Marilyn works as a support bookkeeper who is also responsible for handling the company's office supplies and minor facility repair issues like scheduling periodic carpet cleanings, etc. Marilyn very much enjoyed helping people but found that people were coming to her frequently and for minor things.
