In my workshops and seminars, I often share the example of when New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was giving a commencement speech soon after he was first elected. The problem is that memorizing causes you to focus too much on specific words and not enough on important themes, points and messages. If this is a scenario that does not sound appealing, remember it the next time you are tempted to memorize a presentation in any setting.
