The primary responsibility business leaders have is to develop firms that will be more successful tomorrow than they are today. Organizational learning is essential to this process. There is no simple formula to become a learning organization, but firms that have this aim must foster learning at every level. Learning sets the stage for superior performance. To excel, firms must be able to create and sustain significant competitive advantages. In a research, 250 people were asked to describe factors that impaired learning in their organizations. As can be seen from the variety of respondents' comments, learning impairments reside in almost every facet of the firm. Here are some specific things a firm can do to enhance its ability to learn: 1. See things before others see them via strategic learning. 2. Find innovative solutions to problems through breakthrough thinking. 3. Execute your plans more effectively through operational learning.
