Until recently, biodiesel--defined as the mono-alkyl esters of vegetable oils or animal fats--was the usual form in which triacylglycerol feedstocks were used as alternative diesel fuel. Now petrodiesel-like fuels obtained from such or other biological feedstocks are receiving increasing attention. Various aspects of using vegetable oils for production of biodiesel or petrodiesel-like diesel fuel are discussed.
