The Australian government has given Gunns the green light to clear vegetation to make away for its planned pupl mill in northern Tasmania. On February 1, the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Peter garret, gave the go-ahead to clear the site for the 1.1 million tonne/yr bleached softwood and hardwood kraft pulp plant. The pulp scheme has already suffered multiple delays since its inception in 2004. It is not clear when the facility will start up, as a new timeframe is yet to be released.
