CALCULATED FIRE RESISTANCE In the U.S., calculated fire resistance is evaluated according to ACI 216.1-073 using the full service load, which is the sum of the unfactored dead load D and live load L. The current ACI 216.1 requirements are based on empirical relationships that have been developed based on the standard fire tests described in ASTM E119.4 Some other jurisdictions use the full dead load, but less than the full live load, for the test or calculations, and the Commentary to ASCE 7 suggests 1.2D + 0.5L as an appropriate load combination.
