Novartis head of North American pharmaceuticals, Alex Gorsky, resigned from the company last month, joining an exodus of sales and marketing execs from the firm. Gorsky is returning to Johnson & Johnson to serve as company group chairman and worldwide franchise chairman of Ethicon, reporting to surgical care group head Sheri McCoy. The departures come as Novartis moves forward with plans to cut 1,260 jobs from its US sales and marketing unit in an effort to save the company an estimated $230 million.
