Three surviving manuscripts in particular prove to be works of special importance, with 451 folios containing musical notation, described by James Grier as a 'musical resource without equal before the seventeenth century', and one impressed on students of my generation studying Aquitanian neumes in Carl Parrish's The notation of medieval music.
