Project Involvement
Pine Rivers Road Safety Audit
This project including road safety audits associated with the design phase for two major
intersection upgrades. South Pine Road/ Dawson Parade/Plucks Road design included the
upgrade of two priority control intersections on Pine Road to include signals. Old North Road/
Samsonvale Road/Youngs Crossing Road intersection design included the replacement of an
existing roundabout with traffic signals and included ancillary works on the adjacent approaches.
Port Kembla Coal Terminal Environmental Assessment Road Safety Review
As part of the Environmental Assessment for Port Kembla Coal Terminal, CEO assessed proposed
changes to existing operations to a proposed 24 hour 7 day per week delivery of coal via public
road and increased delivery of coal over a ten year period. This included staff members
undertaking a drive through in coal truck on potential truck routes to get an understanding of
general road safety issues including speed, swept path analysis, sight distances and road
environments.
Ashburn Road/Warrego Highway On-ramp Road Safety Audit
As part of a 335 hectare industrial and commercial development located on the Warrego
Highway, Bundamba, Cardno Eppell Olsen was commissioned to undertake an existing stage
road safety audit. The audit focused on the Ashburn Road/Warrego Highway on-ramp
intersection which was identified as part of the traffic assessment to be a key intersection within
the study area. We also assessed the current intersection form and operation and provided
recommendations on improvements considered necessary to improve its safety and operation.
M1 Eastern Distributor Sydney Stage 5 Road Safety Audit
Cardno Eppell Olsen was commissioned by Airport Motorway Limited to undertake a road safety
audit along the entire length of the Eastern Distributor to determine potential road safety issues.
The audit included a review of on and off ramps, examination of traffic movements from the
traffic control room, desktop analysis of crash data and a review of design drawings. The audit
was undertaken during traffic operations and maintenance closures, so audit staff had a chance
to walk one of Sydney's major roads without any traffic which was a rare experience.
Bankstown North/South Terrace Busway Stage 4 Road Safety Audit
Cardno Eppell Olsen was commissioned by Bankstown City Council to undertake a pre opening
road safety audit for the Bankstown Station bus corridor. A pre-opening audit of bus link
between North and South Terrace including new bus interchanges was undertaken. Site
inspections included a drive through by several buses to assess sight lines, vehicle swept path
adequacy and vehicles clearances. A walk through of main pedestrian desire lines was also
conducted. The road safety audit also reviewed design drawings and items such as potential
hazards, safety barriers, approaches and connections.
Stage 1 Feasibility Bus Priority, Road Safety Audits - Church Street,
Parramatta, Lane Cove Road, Macquarie Park and Pennant Hills Road,
Carlingford
Cardno Eppell Olsen was commissioned by the Roads & Traffic Authority NSW to undertake
feasibility road safety audits for bus priority projects. The audits involved review of existing road
configurations and potentially altering these configurations for the implementation of full
kerbside bus lanes. The audits also assessed issues such as land acquisition, sight distances,
vertical and horizontal alignment, existing utilities and services, signage requirements, road
design and likely driver behaviours.
