Ashley started his career with the Union Bank of India in Madras - it was one of the first of the
initial 14 banks to be nationalised in India. He soaked up International Trade there and left for
the Middle East, Dubai in June 1982.
He worked as the Head of Trade for the Commercial Bank International in Dubai. He joined
ABN Bank Dubai in Sept'85 as their Head of International Trade looking after their
international business. Ashley left ABN Bank in Sept '89, (ABN merged with AMRO in 1989
and became ABN-AMRO).
He joined Barclays Bank Plc in Dubai, they later changed their banking structure to Barclays
Capital where he was Head of International Trade for the Middle East and Manager Corporate
Ashley came to join his family in Sydney and joined Westpac Banking Corporation in 2002 as
Senior International Business Manager-Financial Markets and International looking after NSW
Metro, South and ACT.
Ashley joined HSBC Bank Australia in December 2005 as their Senior Business Development
Manager-International Trade for the NSW region. He is fortunate to have been exposed to the
international scene and has picked up quite a bit of exposure and international experience.
His educational qualifications include Certified Documentary Credit Specialist(CDCS), from
the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London (not renewed since being in Australia) and an
MBA in Banking and Finance from the University of Hull, UK.
