DESCRIPTION
The Union Vicinage is seeking a detailed oriented professional to work as a Court Interpreter. Under the direction of
the General Operations Division Manager and the Court Services Supervisor 2, the successful candidate must be able to
interpret in the three modes of interpretation (sight, consecutive, and simultaneous), in court proceedings, quasi-judicial
hearings, complimentary dispute resolution events, weddings, and other court related events in person or via a
telecommunicator device. The qualified candidate will be able to produce translations, either in draft or final form, of
documents such as official forms, public signs, notices, posters, form letters, and correspondence. Other responsibilities
include but are not limited to collecting and entering data into automated record-keeping systems, participating in study
and training activities in a group or individually in order to develop and maintain interpreting and translating skills. This
is an exciting and challenging position for a candidate who is looking for an opportunity to use his/her bilingual ability
and is committed to making a difference. The successful candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be
able to work effectively with all levels of Judiciary staff.
Positions will be filled at one of the following levels based on candidate qualifications and available positions:
Court Interpreter 2 – Master $56,381.88 - $85,104.72*
Level 3 – Master
Employees at this level interpret complex legal proceedings and tran
forms, letters and other court-related documents.
Court Interpreter 1 – Journey $53,190.45 - $75,530.44*
Level 2 – Journey
Employees at this level interpret legal proceedings and translate
forms, letters and other court-related documents.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – SPOKEN LANGUAGE
TESTING A score of 70% or better in each of the parts of the test administered by the New Jersey Administrative
Office of the Courts or an equivalent test by a member of the Consortium for State Court Interpreter Certification; or the
Court Interpreter Certification from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. For additional information

AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: US Citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in US
according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
SPECIAL NOTE: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All
data received will be kept in the strictest confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken
as a result of this information.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
Employees are eligible to enroll in various benefits programs including health insurance, dental insurance and a
prescription drug plan; a group life insurance plan; and a retirement program. Employees are entitled to a minimum of
one paid vacation day and one sick day for each month worked during the first calendar year and one sick day for each
month worked during the first calendar. Additionally, employees earn three administrative leave days and receive
thirteen paid holidays per year.
The New Jersey Judiciary consists of: the Supreme Court, the Superior Court including the Appellate Division and the Trial Courts of the 15 vicinage in New
Jersey, the Tax Court and the Municipal Court System. The Administrative Office of the Courts provides technical assistance, operational support, training,
research and development, budget and personnel coordination, and development and operation of information systems for the Courts of New Jersey.
*For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary or the minimum salary of the
band/level, whichever is greater. No increase may exceed the maximum of the range for that level within the band. Employees who are hired directly
from another branch of New Jersey state government may be hired at up to 5% above the salary they were being paid in the other branch of
government, provided that no employee will have his/her salary set above the maximum of their salary/band level. For newly hired employees, the
starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range or up to 15% above the minimum salary based on education and experience;
however, a higher salary may be approved based upon the particular qualifications of the selected candidate or the difficulty of the recruitment. In no
case may the employee be paid more than the maximum salary for the title.
