 TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER SYSTEM
The Board of Inland Revenue wishes to inform taxpayers that it is in the process
of expanding the taxpayer identification number base.

To deal with the increase in taxpayers, the number system is being expanded to
include three (3) digits to the front, an increase from seven (7) to ten (10) digits.

Taxpayers with existing numbers will continue to use those numbers with three
zeros (000) inserted to the front.
Example:
Existing Board of Inland Revenue File Number (BIR) No. – 890786-9
New Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) No. – 000890786-9
All correspondence from the Inland Revenue Division will have existing numbers
reflected in the new format.

New taxpayers will be assigned Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) in the new
format – ten digits.
Example:
New Taxpayer registered ……….
TIN# 001234567-8

This measure is estimated to commence about July 2007.

This new number format will not affect the filing or processing of 2006 Income
Tax Returns where numbers are used in the old format.
