Integrated Master Plan Definition
An event-driven plan that documents the
significant accomplishments necessary to
complete the work and ties each accomplishment
to a key program event.
(Filename.ppt) 9/4/98 3
IMP Purpose
n Overall program structure and organization, tool for
monitoring progress of program
n During Source Selection
ä Evaluate proposed approach
ä Offerors’management/planning capability
ä Risk assessment tool
n After Contract Award
ä Baseline for key events
ä Control mechanism
ä Basis for incentives

IMP Applications
n RA requires an Integrated Master Plan
n Offeror proposes complete IMP
n Proposed IMP becomes part of agreement/contract as
attachment at award
ä IMP has sufficient detail to manage program
ä Level of detail linked to risk assessment
n Changes to IMP after award require contract change
ä Allow industry partner to make changes at more
detailed level
n Review IMP/IMS as regular part of program
management
(Filename.ppt) 9/4/98 7
IMP Features
The IMP is the foundation for the IMS
The IMP is the foundation for the IMS
n Key Events - Activities to meet technical and
agreement/contract requirements
ä Initiation/conclusion of an interval of major program activity
ä Decision-point relating system maturity with continued system
development
n Significant Accomplishment
äA specified result substantiating an event that indicates a level of
design maturity (or progress) for each product/process
l Generally a discrete step in the progress of the planned
development
ä Demonstrates that the design and production of products are
successfully maturing
n s
System Integrator’ IMP supports and is supported by sub’ IMPs s

IMP Features
(Cont)
n Narrative
ä A concise description of the Offeror's key functional
processes/procedures, how they relate to the IPD process, and an
overview of the efforts required to implement them
ä Address only the key elements of implementing or developing a
process/procedure (i.e., what the process/procedure will be or how
it will be implemented)
ä Descriptions of the overall approach to executing tasks for which
there may be no specific IMP accomplishments (survivability, etc.)
n Accomplishment Criteria
ä Definitive measure(s) substantiating the maturity level of the
significant accomplishment. It is the completion of specified work
that ensures closure of a specified "Significant Accomplishment."

Integrated Master Schedule
Definition
An integrated and networked multi-layered
schedule of program tasks required to complete the
work effort captured in a related IMP. The
IMS should include all IMP events and
accomplishments and support each accomplishment
closure criteria.
(Filename.ppt) 9/4/98 13
IMS Purpose
n Provides detailed insight into program planning
ä Initial IMS supports Risk Assessment
l Source selection evaluation
ä Tracking & statusing tool during program execution
n Top level tool to show progress during program
execution
ä Linked to WBS, work packages, and incentives
ä Performance oriented
(Filename.ppt) 9/4/98 14
IMS Highlights
n Calendar based to track task progression
n IMS tasks are a breakout of required effort for each
IMP event
n Used during program execution to track schedule and
support risk management activities
n Network schedule shows interrelationships and critical
path

IMP - IMS Relationship
n The IMP is expanded in IMS to incorporate all detailed
tasks required to accomplish the individual IMP
criteria
n The tasks are then applied against a networked
schedule to develop the IMS
n Single numbering scheme aids cross referencing with
IMP, IMS and WBS
