Early-tech space war. The planet has bases on the moon. The technology has basic spacefighters, which are basically jets equipped to fly in space, armed with a laser and a rail gun (or some similar gun). The moon is mostly used for storage of very important things, scientific research and development, and a dock for military space power. The moon is held by people from a variety of nations. For some reason, (perhaps their isolation they think they are smarter, or some smart person realizes the advantages they would have) they plot and then rebel. They have superior space power, so they can defeat any attacks. As for nuclear missiles, they were not made to go through space. A month or two in, the planet tries to send specially equipped missiles on shuttles to be kept on stations or launched from the shuttles. The moon is safe for the moment, but not self-sufficient. They step it up by taking over satellites. Ones they cannot convert their use, they steal or destroy. The planet was dependent on it’s satellites for everything, and the moon has a store of the most powerful vehicles which are now unstoppable, meaning they have free reign over the planet. They raid the planet like Vikings for supplies, flying in with their jets and destroying resistance, loading up their vehicles, and flying back to the moon. After a while, the world is at their mercy after they destroy all land-based resistance. The moon is the overlord of the world. There are several ways I think things could go after this. One is that the people on the moon, get too carried away and destroy themselves from within. Another is that it turns out the moon was a product of the world and they need more than the normal necessities, meaning they must go back to the world. Another possibility is that they simply win permanently, and the two societies grow apart (scientists win?) “we are the new papacy! The world will not be guided by religion or wealth, but science!” Hicks racist against scientists, die out. “We have been responsible for all of your good fortune! (maybe the world was recently forgetting science because of all the warring.” "Instead of a government of the powerful, this is a government of the intelligent." In the story in which scientists take over the moon and proceed to make demands of their world, the reasoning of the scientists should be the common belief of scientists that the destruction of humanity is inevitable combined with the growing belief that there is no afterlife and that everything done now is much more important than religious beliefs suggest. The question comes up over weather they are willing to kill civilians to assert their power. Once they have conquered militarily, how do they assert their power without that? People protest (a major group of them being heavily religious or those who like the status quo) by striking or otherwise refusing to do anything for their gain. The moon people are able exercise control by restricting use of satellites and such. The leader does everything he can to avoid killing people. As for killing military, he tries to work around it as long as possible. If there is one leader of it, the question may be whether he/she is a mad scientist or a very sane scientist.

One able scientist may be able to try taking over the moon by making it so one of the space born weapons will destroy the base. The atmosphere inside may become very schizophrenic. There is the question of what they do when they have the power. How do they handle the world now? Senior scientist asks for the number one position because of his tenure. However, the belief of the one who started it is that only a person of a specific, suitable mind can manage things right. They demand resources to support their efforts, since the resource-sparse moon can't support them very well and it can't give them the right materials to produce more. Some groups might take their families hostage. They have military people on their base/colony, mostly pilots of ships and such. One group might be a very specialized special operations team that was kept there in order to reach anywhere in the world very quickly if necessary or to secure the space station in case of a hostile takeover by another nation. The leader is a physicist who wanted to find definitions for life in science. He did important work on sources of energy. He was a minor celebrity once because he said some things against religion and the way people are. He wrote a philosophical book that a few people read. Like other scientists he expects the world to end eventually with the way things are going, so he took change onto himself. A vacation area was being constructed, but now they finish it up so it's suitable and use it for apartments. This story has the people of the future, the educated people, making more happen than what would. This is a major point in history, when the open-minded assert power. Perhaps it should end with defeat with success. The world is changed, but they themselves are taken. The scientists are all brilliant minds, so it shouldn't end by being outsmarted. One possible thing could be the arrogance of lesser ones. It might also be that the leader takes the moral high ground and fails. Perhaps he sees that he can only succeed fighting a world that doesn't understand by resorting to the same cruel things that were used for thousands of years, meaning the world wasn't ready yet. "We are declaring a new country. Don't call us terrorists, we are insulted by it." “Scientists aren’t supposed to philosophize. They prefer other kinds of people to do that. Our profession is studying the way things really work, but they have their place for us. Most people still believe certain people of less education know better.”

The planet and the moon are similar to Earth. The planet has an extremely varied climate. It is said that the people in the Americas advanced slower than those in Asia and Europe because the similarities in the climates went by latitudinal rather than by longitude, making it difficult for knowledge and ideas to spread around. Most of the planet is like this, meaning ideas moved slower and it took longer to develop. Intolerance is more common, meaning they advanced technologically but not as much mentally. It might also be that there are two sides of the world with generally distinct kinds of people, and they have historically been at odds. The moon is different from ours in that it was slightly easier to exploit. It’s denser, giving it stronger gravity and some atmosphere. The physicist should be of mixed parentage, because it goes with his open-mindedness. A number of his mistakes come from being unable to predict people very well. Basically, he was never raised or taught to work with people. He mostly just learned science and to approach people in abstract ways. He could be called a nerd. “I don’t have faith that it will all work out. Few scientists do. It’s something that separates us from the religious. There is an incalculable number of ways things will change with every decision. It’s possible tomorrow will be a tragedy or a triumph.” A different scientist says “It is time for liberalism to be imposed. Freedom should be forced.” “You would just support the freedom that supports us.” Totally the wrong idea. “I have given power to those who did not desire it. Isn’t this safer than giving it to those who want it?” In the story in which scientists take over the moon and proceed to make demands of their world, the reasoning of the scientists should be the common belief of scientists that the destruction of humanity is inevitable combined with the growing belief that there is no afterlife and that everything done now is much more important than religious beliefs suggest. Sometimes when watching some films, I get the sense that anyone is space is the distant observer. They are disconnected, but they can see all. Potentially mysterious. To preserve peace between nations, they begin by threatening the sides of a battle that they may come to destroy all battlers. At first they always make good on the threats, but then afterwards they only do it occasionally. This is often good enough to control battles. After a while, they also attack without previous threats. This makes it very frightening for people to fight, not to mention difficult. Scientists from many nations were on, including ones from competing nations. Despite the differences, they always got along better because of their common mindsets. It might be perceived hat they felt they were above it all. “It’s like you think you’re above all of us!”

“Ha! We are.” “I didn’t realize how hard it would be to fight scientists.” The central structures are well-protected to be safe from all sorts of the dangers in outer space, as well as a limited protection from military attack. Other things, such as research structures and solar panels, are less protected. The central thing can exist for weeks without help, having all the essential systems within it. Some possible scenario, maybe for an alternate story, is that the world is brought backwards, such as by a nuclear war, and the moon lives on. Early-tech space war. The planet has bases on the moon.
