Releases – Support End of Life
Customer Notification of the decision to End the Life of the Product noted above:

Introduction

As stated in Nortel Networks Standard Lifecycle Management Policy, Nortel Networks provides
full support for the two most recent major releases of Alteon Switch Firewall (ASF). This allows
Nortel Networks to maintain high-quality support and low product costs for our customers. With
the release of Alteon Switched Firewall (ASF) 4.0 software, ASF version 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 will be
declared End of Life. As of October 18, 2004 Nortel Networks will only offer full support for
ASF versions 3.0 and 3.5 on 5308, 5410, 5610, 5710, 5614, and 5714 hardware platforms.
Customers with support contracts who are interested in upgrading ASF to a later version of the
software can do so now at no cost by downloading ASF versions 3.0 or 3.5 from the Nortel
Networks Customer Support Web site (www.nortelnetworks.com/cs). In accordance with this
policy, full support for ASF 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 on all supported platforms will end on October 18,
2004.


End-Of-Life (EOL) – This notice serves as formal communication of Nortel Networks’ intent to
end the life of the product(s) noted. No further support will be provided after the EOL date shown
above. Emergency recovery and/or upgrades may be performed in accordance with customer
specific service plans or upgrade agreements as negotiated prior to EOL.

Software Dependencies

As of October 18, 2004 Nortel Networks will only offer “limited support” for ASF versions 1.0,
1.1 and 2.0. As of that date full support will only be available for ASF version 3.0 and 3.5.
“Limited support" enables customers to receive help with Emergency Recovery and Trouble
shooting (Only covers initial investigation and identification of Hardware issue. Covers
maintenance and patch releases in-between the current major release and the next major release
for Software). User documentation and release notes will also remain available, as well as Plan,
Build, and Contract Services.

Alternative/Replacement Products/Solutions

The replacement ASF software for versions 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 is either version 3.0 or 3.5.
Customers with support contracts who are interested in upgrading the firewall to a later version of
ASF can do so now at no cost by downloading ASF versions 3.0, or 3.5 from the Nortel Networks
Customer Support Web site (www.nortelnetworks.com/cs).

Nortel Networks recommends that customers using ASF version 1.0, 1.1, or 2.0 upgrade before
October 18, 2004 to either ASF 3.0 or 3.5.

Customers that are interested in upgrading their existing hardware platforms may upgrade to ASF
6614 hardware platform and ASF 4.0 software. Customers interested in a hardware upgrade may
contact their Nortel Networks sales representative or authorized reseller for additional details and
incentive programs.
