                                       FOR CUB & WEBELO SCOUTS
Light of Christ
To be eligible to work on the Light of Christ program, a Scout must be a registered Tiger or Wolf Cub Scout of the
Catholic faith. All requirements are to be completed before the Scout starts the third grade. The purpose of the Light of
Christ program is to have the Scout develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as a real person and his friend.
This type of relationship will allow him to better understand and appreciate Christ’s love and concern for him. Through
the active assistance and participation of the Scout’s parent(s) in this program, it is hoped that he will come to see
Jesus as a real person and his friend. The objectives of the program are as follows:
• To support the role of the parents as the primary catechists of their children.
• To have the Scout identify Jesus as a real person and as his friend.
• To foster early family religious involvement.
• To be a stepping stone toward Parvuli Dei and the other religious emblems, when the parents are involved.
• To serve as a catalyst to draw the parents into a deeper involvement with the church, through the child.

Parvuli Dei
To be eligible to work on the Parvuli Dei program, a Scout must be a registered Bear Cub or Webelo Scout of the
Catholic Faith, who has completed the second grade. This is a parish and family oriented program. As in Light of
Christ, the Scout works with his parents. The objectives of this program are as follows:
• To help the Scout of this age develop an awareness of God’s love for each of His special, uniquely created beings.
• To help the Scout become aware and understand his identity as an important member of his family, his community,
and as a member of the Family of God.
• To aid the Scout in his awareness of the responsibilities that grow out of God’s love for us.

                                              FOR BOY SCOUTS
Ad Altare Dei
The Ad Altare Dei (AAD) program is designed for Boy Scouts of the Catholic Church, 13 and 14 years of age, although
older scouts may work with the program. Scouts must have completed the sixth grade and been active in their troop for
at least six months before beginning the program. Ad Altare Dei is organized in steps based on the seven Sacraments.
The goal of the program is to help faith growth within the Scout. By faith growth, we mean relating the knowledge of
our faith (the seven Sacraments in particular) to the ordinary experiences of the Scout’s life. Through this bridging of
experiences the knowledge he has already received concerning the Sacraments should become more personal and
intimate in his life. It is assumed that through formal religious education the Scout has and is receiving a solid
foundation of religious knowledge.

                                  FOR BOY SCOUTS & VENTURERS
Pope Pius XII
Pope Pius XII is a vocation-based program designed for high school and college age youth, conducted within a group
of the youth’s peers. The Pope Pius XII program helps the Scouts in discovering what God is calling them to become.
The program is open to any registered Catholic youth member (male or female) of the Boy Scouts of America, who has
started the ninth grade. The goals of the Pope Pius XII program are as follows:
• To have the Scout examine how being a Christian affects his or her daily life in a real world.
• To challenge the Scout to evaluate his or her personal talents and abilities in light of a possible choice of
lifestyle/vocation or ministry that relates in some way to belonging to and becoming more active in the Catholic
     Christian faith community.
• To give the Scout an opportunity share his or her faith and practice his or her religion among peers, while receiving
guidance and feedback attuned to the ideals of Scouting.
• Within the program the moderator is called to perform many tasks:
• To develop a trusting relationship between the moderator and the youth.
• To foster a trusting relationship among the youth themselves. This prepares the opportunity for meaningful peer
     ministry to occur.
• To effectively bring the Gospel Message of Jesus to the youth, the moderator must be able to live the Gospel
Message in his or her daily life and be able to share the impact it has had on his or her life.
