Herbal Medicine……. What’s it all about???? Interest in complementary medicine and alternative pathways to health has exploded in the past decade and more and more information validating its use continue to be put forth. Indeed even the mainstream system now recognises complementary medicine as having a place in the treatment protocol of patients with many disorders. These days most people would have heard of different herbal remedies for various problems and most of those people would have at least tried something herbal somewhere along the line to aid their health. The explosion of interest in complementary medicine has seen the rise of Health Food Stores with extensive ranges of many herbal products to treat many different things. One only has to walk into a health food store to easily become overwhelmed at the vast choice the consumer has at taking control of their health through the use of natural and traditional remedies. This field has expanded so much so that now even Pharmacies and Grocery stores have a wide selection of alternative and natural products to choose available to purchase off the shelf. With all these unrestricted products available to the consumer it is more important than ever to have a clear understanding of exactly what we are taking and putting into our bodies. With this in mind Gracegrove College has developed the Retail Health Food / Pharmacy Certificate. This certificate covers first year Herbal Medicine subjects and provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make an informed choice about what exactly to put into their bodies during sickness and health. It is an excellent place to start for those considering a career in complimentary medicine or those people wish to use these products with comfort that they are making an informed and safe choice. If students wish to pursue a career in complementary medicine, then the Advanced Diploma of Western Herbal Medicine will allow them to do just that and receive a qualification that is nationally recognised and endorsed by the Government and Industry Associations. This qualification is a minimum of 3 years of study and goes in depth looking at natural and traditional remedies that have been around for years and how these can be used to treat a wide range of disorders. There is also a large human physiology component to this qualification to enable the student to understand how the body works and how one illness can impact on several systems or how a disorder of one system can show somewhere else entirely. This knowledge combined with the knowledge of herbal remedies gives students excellent skills in treating the whole person and not just the presenting symptoms. Whilst using natural methods for treating illness is arguably a worthy reason to pursue complementary medicine, perhaps where it can really be of enormous value is in optimising and maintaining an individual’s health prior to sickness. With Herbal Medicine there is a strong nutrition focus and this alone can dramatically impact a person life in a positive way. Understanding that whilst we all possess a human body which functions in a similar way physiologically, we are also different in the kinds of nutrition our bodies require and having a clear comprehension of what our bodies’ individual needs are together with safe and natural ways to ensure those needs are met is a powerful tool to have. As we live in an age where we no longer have to accept certain illnesses as a part of life, the choices we have to reach maximum health are so vast and people are open to trying complimentary medicine, it has become essential that people have the knowledge to make an informed choice and qualified professionals are available to assist them in doing so.

Q. Are correspondence courses available? A. STUDY
Q. Do I need my higher school certificate to study with Gracegrove College? A. You do not require any formal qualification to begin studying at Gracegrove College. Secondary School English, Math and Science are desirable for any study at Gracegrove College but not essential. A medium proficiency in reading and writing is sufficient. Please contact us if have any queries about your ability to stud, or special requirements. Q. Will I have to study hard? A. As set by ATMS (Australian Traditional Medicine Society), for every three hours (3) spent in the classroom, one-hour (1) of study is accredited. However, each face to face classroom hour, realistically needs three (3) hours of self-study. Having taken the first step towards your learning, it is important to realise the responsibility ahead when planning your subject choices. Gracegrove College suggests at least one (1) hour of self-study and revision for every one (1) hour in the classroom. Q. If I have a pre-requisite from another school or college will I be exempt from the subject concerned? A. Gracegrove Pty. Ltd. recognises AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainments issued by any other RTO (Registered Training Organisation). To obtain RPL (Recognised Prior Learning) all relevant qualifications must be submitted when enrolling (at least two weeks prior to class) for approval. See Student Handbook for RPL Policy and Procedure.
