$2,774 - $3,618 PER MONTH
In addition, the City pays 7% of the employee contribution to the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). The City offers
a Section 125 cafeteria benefit plan. Paid sick leave, vacation and holiday time are available in accordance with City policies.
Under general supervision this non-sworn position, performs a wide variety of civilian field and office law enforcement work
in direct support of sworn personnel, including taking police reports and other general support activities as required.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK ALL SHIFTS INCLUDING GRAVEYARD, SWING SHIFT, AND DAY, AS
WELL AS HOLIDAYS AND WEEKENDS. MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK EXTRA HOURS DURING
The Police Service Officer will serve as a field or desk officer; track and serve subpoena; collect and log found property;
operate teletype machine; receive and process abandoned vehicle notices; coordinate the removal of vehicles; monitor and
enforce City ordinances of a non-criminal nature; respond to complaints from the public; serve as a parking enforcement
officer; patrol city streets and enforce laws and regulations applicable to non-moving vehicles; write citations for overtime
parking and illegal parking; perform a variety of routine follow-up investigative work not requiring sworn personnel; make
court appearances as required; perform a variety of general clerical duties, and related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: A minimum of one (1) year of work experience requiring frequent public contact including
some prior work experience in municipal police department, and the completion of the twelfth grade or the equivalent is
desirable. A valid California Driver’s License is required.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic organization and functions of a municipal law enforcement agency; English usage, spelling,
grammar, and punctuation; modern office procedures, methods, and equipment; principles of business letter writing and basic
report preparation; and techniques for dealing with the public in a tactful but firm manner.
ABILITY TO: Learn to interpret, and apply Federal, State, City, and departmental laws, policies, and procedures; think and
act quickly in a emergency situation; maintain and service a city vehicle, prepare accurate and grammatically correct written
reports; understand and carry out oral and written directions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Fluency in Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), or
Vietnamese is desirable.

Applications will be screened for qualifications and appropriate background and only the most qualified will be invited to
participate in the examination process. Applicants will be notified by mail as to the test date, time and location. The
examination process will include the following:
Written Examination 30%
Oral Interview 70%
Failure on any portion of the examination process will result in disqualification.
Candidates will be required to pass a thorough background investigation; City administered pre-employment physical
and a polygraph, which will be part of the examination process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and
removed from the eligibility list.

(5) working days prior to the examination date.
