Web Developer/Programmer Job Description: The web developer/programmer assists with designing concepts for, creating and maintaining websites. Responsibilities include the creation of concepts for new and enhanced features to be included in redesigns and re-launches; implementing programming using HTML, XML, javascript, PHP, Java, Perl and other web specific coding; and maintaining large, multi-page, heavy content, dynamic Web sites. The web developer/programmer is also responsible for troubleshooting, dealing with cross-browser/platform interface testing, and QA. The web developer/programmer will develop and test interactive web site enhancements for cross-browser/platform functionality, and analyze and report on statistics within the website. In addition, the web developer/programmer will be responsible for guiding clients through design requirements definition, recommending navigational standards, manipulating PDF forms for online submissions, creating HTML, some graphics, and possibly animations and/or interactive elements by using a variety of applications such as, but not limited to, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver CS3, Flash CS3 and Acrobat 8 Professional. The web developer/programmer should also have general understanding of site hosting using IIS and Apache, CGI programming, relational database design using MS SQL, web site database connection methods, and have an understanding of IT infrastructure. Working knowledge of open source projects such as Apache and Apache Lucene a plus. The web developer/programmer must be teamoriented. Work is performed under the supervision of the Web Development Manager EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: 1. Maintain and design complex web architectures. 2. Work with other developers to provide guidance on developing industry standard applications to fully utilize our Web infrastructure. 3. Development and maintenance of websites, web applications using JSP, ASP, PHP, Windows Media components, Flash components and e-commerce systems. 4. Design and build web pages using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other applicable design languages. 5. Review, test, and recommend solutions for all new web presentation and interaction concepts. 6. Define and communicate usability and user-centered design best practices, principles and standards. 7. Develop clear recommendations based with supporting metrics, benchmarking and analysis. 8. Lead user specification meetings and devise coherent diagrams for review by team members and customers. 9. Ability to handle multiple projects at once. 10. Ability to manage time efficiently. 11. Ability to meet deadlines. 12. Must be able to accept changes as working towards a goal. 13. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Project management skills including the ability to work independently or collaboratively with other team members, and to lead a technical team on complex projects producing quality work; strong interpersonal skills required for interfacing with client representatives, internal customers, and vendor representatives; good information organization; ability to write documentation and provide training. Demonstrate initiative and ability to work with others and excellent customer service attitude and skill; willingness to work and stay current with new technologies and work overtime when required; good oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to understand business challenges and recommend/implement challenge-focused solutions. The web developer/programmer must have a granular understanding of standard Internet technologies and development. Must be flexible and have the potential to pick up and apply new skills rapidly and intelligently to meet business goals. Excellent skills in utilizing: MS Windows 2000 and XP Professional, Windows Media, HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML, Dreamweaver, Flash, and Adobe Photoshop. Working knowledge of advanced web programming languages such as ASP, PHP, Perl and CGI and software such as Windows Media components and e-commerce is desired. Working knowledge of content management systems, enterprise systems and audio/video web applications is a plus. Training and Experience: The web developer/programmer requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or significant equivalent experience. Also required are three years minimum experience with HTML, DHTML, CSS and javascript; two years minimum Web programming experience, including PHP, ASP, JSP or other open source language projects; and one year minimum experience working with relational database systems such as MS SQL and have a good working knowledge of SQL. Working knowledge of CGI programming and Flash ActionScript is a plus. The web developer/programmer is expected to have development experience using extensible web authoring tools such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage and experience developing and implementing open source software projects. This position requires a self-starter with strong self-management skills and the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and have a strong work ethic
