                              Dr. Kate Hetherington, Howard CC
Are you planning to represent your community college at Student Advocacy Day
in Annapolis on February 8, 2005? Last year, over 400 students from all of the
community colleges were in attendance. At Student Advocacy Day, you will
have the opportunity to meet with your state legislators in Annapolis to keep
them informed about issues on your campus. Each college should select at least
one student to attend this workshop to learn about planning for the event and the
                     logistics for the day.

                  “Speech Building”
                     Anne Davis, Carroll Community College

Public Speaking . . . More feared than death itself!
Do your palms sweat and your heart race at the thought of speaking in front of a
group? Do your knees buckle when called on to give a report? Being a
successful leader often requires you to speak to groups, large and small. In this
interactive speech-building workshop we’ll discover our natural speaking talents,
gain valuable new speaking tools and learn how to build the foundations of a
great speech. Bring a willingness to participate and openness to learn.

 “The Art of Networking and Negotiating”
                     Rashida Govan, CCBC Essex

                  “Creative Publicity”
Ellen Plissner, Prince George’s Community College

Help! I need some new ideas for promoting my events on campus! You already
have a great program, but attendance it dismal. Maybe you need to catch your
students' attention with some original and dazzling publicity. During this
interactive session, you will be generating new ideas for publicizing and
promoting your activities while learning how to think more creatively. Even
with a limited budget, it is easy to come up with innovative and timely publicity
if you use a little creativity. Come with an open mind, and bring an original idea
                     from your campus to share.

2:00 – 2:15 Evaluation and wrap-up
