ATTENTION SCRAPBOOKERS!!!!
You have a new friend at the Waverly
Public Library! I am a new assistant
librarian here at the library. My passion
for the past seven years has been
scrapbooking. I have always loved taking
pictures, but it wasn t until I had children
that I found a passion for scrapbooking the moments of our lives. I guess it started from
this fear that these precious baby moments would soon be forgotten, so I had better
scrapbook EVERYTHING I can. A friend gave me some supplies and a little instruction.
Since then, I haven t stopped. I will admit my first many pages were not that good
artistically, but with time and practice it has become a fun, creative outlet and a great gift
to my family.
My favorite pages are almost always from ideas I have scraplifted from books
and magazines. Our library has so many great resources from beginners to advanced
levels. My two favorite scrap books here at the Waverly Public Library are: Clean &
Simple Scrapbooking by Cathy Zielske and A Designer s Eye for Scrapbooking by Ali
Edwards. They are both amazing books to look at for instruction, examples, tips and
tricks. These are two of the hottest new books for scrapbookers.
Three new books we have added to our collection this month are: Simple
Scrapbooks Ideas and Techniques, The Ultimate Paper Crafts Collection, and Treasury
of Tips & Tricks. These books even go beyond scrapbooking into all kinds of paper
crafts, cards, gifts, bags, books, tags, and even purse embellishments.
Here are 11 other titles we have specific to scrapbooking:

If your struggle is more about taking pictures you like well enough to scrapbook, the
library can help you there as well! We have Capture Your Kids in Pictures by Jay
Foreman, which tells you how to take great portraits, action shots, sports shots, night
shots, and family shots. We have many books on digital photography, digital cameras,
Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro. I have been able to improve the
quality of the pictures I take after reading some of these resources. Here are a few tips I
learned:
1. Take lots of pictures!! The professionals do! The more you take the better your
chance of getting that perfect shot!
2. Get close and then get closer!
3. Mornings and evenings are the best time to take outdoor pictures. If it is mid-day,
try taking pictures in the shade.
4. Remember to take pictures of the ordinary moments of your life. These are the
ones we often forget.
5. Try taking or printing some pictures in black and white.
There are endless resources online for scrapbookers as well. My favorite website is
www.snapfish.com. There I can store all my digital pictures for free, print them at very
reasonable prices, and order specialty items that incorporate my pictures. I can also send
my photo files by email to friends and family for free.
For a list of great websites and local retailers, a list of tips and tricks, a list of
photography tips, or instructions as an introduction to scrapbooking email me at
