Over a period of about two to three months, a course outline was developed- The thought process that went into the outline was to make the class interesting to both sexes and cover material they would need to know to make an informed decision as to a possible engineering field of study to pursue in college. All of the teachers in our consortium also wrote labs. Once we had piles of materials to choose from, teachers from the three local high schools, the University of Cincinnati, and a retired Proctor and Gamble chemical engineer who volunteered to help develop the class, pored over all of the material to determine which labs best taught the engineering concepts of the different areas. The final day of the workshop included topics on classroom time management, how to teach teamwork, and the writing requirements he places on his students.
