The author is delighted to note that CIMA's recently published annual review reveals their largest growth in the number of new members. They achieved 4.8% net membership growth in 2007 against an ambitious target of 4.5%, increasing the institute to 163,000 members and students in 161 countries. They have signed a memorandum of understanding with the sole accountancy body in mainland China to promote the common development of the accountancy profession there. Their strategy through to 2015 remains focused on ensuring that their qualification framework and business development activities stay flexible and responsive enough to meet employers' needs globally, in both the private and public sectors. By doing so, they will continue to be the most relevant financial qualification for businesses.
