Process improvement is an organizational intent. Top management support is critical for two main reasons. As with their resource allocation choices, these decisions are made without the intent to do organizational damage. Search for ways to apply Stephen Covey's "circle of influence" concept to your own personal pursuits of process excellence. Covey's concept is simple: If you focus your efforts on the things you can control, and make those efforts as effective as possible, people will notice a difference. Over time, your circle of influence will expand. Begin honing your own process improvement skills, and continue that journey toward mastery and the point in time when you are called to be a member of top management.
