In an interview, Richard Kidd, manager, informatics,Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), talked about RSC Project Prospect. RSC Project Prospect is an innovative service that in its first incarnation allows readers of the RSC journals to just click on a name of a chemical or concept and link to an external source that provides further information. Several things really helped them in the development of the project -- they have had an XML workflow in place for a number of years, and their technical editing teams already had a good understanding of XML structure and context. Project Prospect is still the first real application of semantic enhancement to primary research literature. Another unique innovation in Project Prospect is the enhancement of their RSS feeds -- all their journal feeds have been upgraded to include compound and subject information for the enhanced articles.
