Leaders at all levels must recognize the importance of building and maintaining teams that produce positive outcomes within their organizations. While difficult to measure, teams go through progressive stages of development. Larger, established organizations have the benefit of continuity, heuristics, oral and written history to help guide the process of work in some teams, while younger, smaller organizations have greater issues with team building and development due to absence of experience. Prior to developing a new team or adding members to an existing team, there is an official notification of membership. When team members collectively agree to abandon personal agendas, group goals are accomplished. Leaders need to know when to lead, but they also need to know when to support and trust in the collective wisdom of the team.
