                        Moylan’s vs. Rockfield Rovers

Date: 12/11/07
Pitch: 14
Referee: Paul Cumisky
Man of the Match: Alvin Lawlor

Moylans and Rockfield Rovers served up a game packed full of attacking football,
tricks, flicks, and plenty of goals to warm everyone up on a cold Monday night.

Rockfield Rovers went into the game sitting on top of the League table with 6 wins
from their 6 games so far and, started the game brightly, clearly intent on keeping that
100% record. Somewhat against the run of play, however, it was Moylans who took
the lead with a deflected finish by Cathal Hayes.

This setback sparked an immediate response from Rockfield Rovers and within a
minute Alvin Lawlor had drawn his side level. Rockfield then added two more quickfire
goals within a 3 minute spell to turn the game on its head. A lovely passing move
from Rovers ended with Mark McKenna sidefooting home before Moylan’s gave the
ball away in front of their own goal and Alvin Lawlor added his second of the game.

Rockfield captain Noel O’Connor was at the heart of most of his side’s play,
displaying a fine range of passing and lovely touches. Despite Rockfields dominance,
Moylans had chances of their own but the hard working Cathal Hayes, Angus Bates
and Brian Loughlin were all denied by excellent stops from Rockfield’s keeper
Graham Swann.

Rockfield added three more goals before half time through Mark McKenna, the highly
impressive Alvin Lawlor and an own goal to lead 6-1 at half time.

The second half began a little slower than the first although Moylans defender
Michael Hayes, who was strong all night, was on hand to block Ger McKenna as he
attempted to add to his side’s lead. Minutes later though they did add to their lead as
man of the match Alvin Lawlor scored two more, the 1 st with a cheeky back heel, and
then hit the post.
Moylans pulled 2 goals back through Cathal Hayes and Trevor Stanley, with a Ger
McKenna strike sandwiched in between. Rockfield then began to turn on the style
with Alvin Lawlor and Noel O’Connor taking on Moylans defenders with ace and skill.

Warren O’Connor scored two in quick succession, the second of which started with
him beating a Moylans defender and playing a one-two with Noel O’Connor before
finishing well. By this stage Rockfield were playing beautiful flowing one and two
touch football. Time and again Michael Hayes at the back for Moylans was on hand to
thwart Rockfield.

Warren O’Connor and Alvin Lawlor added two more goals for Rockfield before the
end to leave a final score of 13-3 to Rockfield Rovers who extend their 100% record
and remain top.
