                                 Project Partners’ Report

Overall Progress and Key Achievements

Provide an assessment of the composite project achievements (lead and partners contributions)
since the last progress report. Detail the project key achievements during the reporting period.
Highlight any exceptions and provide recommendations to Monitoring Officer/Contractor as
  necessary.

In the third quarter Loughborough University, the technical lead partner, is reporting the
  following progress:

Task 2.1 - Individual sensor development: This task has been modified as individual
sensor selection. Lighting and temperatures are the two kinds of sensors we have
identified at the moment. More kinds of sensors might be identified during carrying out
Task 2.5 ‘Energy saving control system development’.

Task 2.2 - Individual actuator development: This task is still on-going. The prototypes of
two versions of the wireless lighting switch have been developed and used in the
demonstration. The initial investigation to Honeywell central heating radiator valve CM
Zone has been made, which is not open to any non-Honeywell wireless module. A
mechanic design of the radiator valve is on-going. An experimental rig has been set-up
  for the radiator valve testing.

Task 2.4 - Routing algorithm development: As the source code of the Jennic wireless
library is not open to the user it will be difficult for us to develop a complete new routing
algorithm for the IndeedNet. The AODV (ad hoc on-demand distance vector) has been
implemented by using the Jennic wireless library, and need to be tested in a multi-end
  devices and multi-router environment.

Task 2.5 - Energy saving control system development: This task has not been started.

Part of the deliverable of Work package 2 is a wireless light switch design report which
will be uploaded in the project web site after approved by the consortium.

Overall Assessment
Provide an assessment of the overall project achievements since the last progress report. Highlight
any deviation from the Second Level Plan and provide recommendations to Contractor/DTI as
  necessary.

The project is continuing to make good technical progress and is now starting to focus on
exploitation matters, which are raising commercial discussions between the partners. A register of
IP is now necessary to facilitate the sharing of technology within the project.

Q3 technical effort has focused on WP2 and is slightly ahead of plan.

The project team has made a grant claim for Q1 and Q2, and await the payment from the
Technology Strategy Board. Detailed finances were not available for the Q3 review but are being
  collated for discussion in November.

Exceptions and Issues
Technical progress is slightly ahead of plan.

Recommendations

To formalise the ownership of background IP through a risk register to facilitate the sharing of
technology in the project. The register can be used to record foreground IP as well.

Technical Progress
Assess the progress of the technical work on a work package by work package basis.
Q3 technical effort has focused on WP2 and is slightly ahead of plan. The Loughborough University
team have now demonstrated how to switch a light by either Zigbee or manual means. Sure
Technology has background IP relating to this that will be adopted. Having investigated the possible
use of the Honeywell CRM radiator valve and found the manufacturers resistant to revealing
commercial information, LU have designed a valve that although impractical for volume production,
will adequately demonstrate system functionality. Sure Technology have innovative background
ideas as to how a low power commercial valve might be constructed. These may be incorporated into
  the system in due course.

Partners and Project Management
Assess the adequacy of the project management arrangements.
Project management by Advantica continues to be professional and commensurate with the
collaboration needs. Formal governance procedures have now been agreed.

Collaboration
Assess the level of collaboration between partners and between the project and related projects and
 KTN activities.
It is evident that partners have met between formal meetings and the collaboration between Sure
technology and Loughborough University is now the technical focus of the project.

East Midlands Housing Association have expressed a wish to become more engaged and the next
meeting will be held at their offices and examine areas of prospective need and potential IndeedNet
  applications

Equipment and Facilities
Assess the benefit to the project of any purchases, facility rental etc

  Not applicable.

Progress against Deliverables, Milestones and Schedule

Project Spend Profile - See Spreadsheet Provided by Lead Partner

Assess whether the grant claim for each partner is consistent with the deliverables achieved, noting
that monies must be committed and defrayed before claim.

Note any variation in the spend categories and profile and assess its likely impact.
The Q1 grant claim was consistent with progress.

The forward spend profile will be revised in Q4 2007.

Human Resources

Assess whether the project resources appear satisfactory and are being effectively deployed.
The resources appear to be deployed effectively.

IPR, Beneficial Ownership, Publications and Confidentiality

Note any issues regarding IPR or beneficial ownership.
Note any issues regarding publications and confidentiality.
None as yet but a risk register is to be created.

Dissemination
Comment on any dissemination, publication or involvement in KTN or other activities.
Loughborough University has published a press release on its website. Advantica has published a
brief article; both articles were cleared through the Technology Strategy Board Media Relations
  Manager.

Exploitation Plans
Detail the progress on development of exploitation plans and assess their likely impact.
The project team is now actively engaged in discussing exploitation planning issues. This has led to
their recognising the need for a formal register of background and foreground IP.

The team recognises that partnering will be critical to the successful exploitation of the system and the
concept will be introduced in outline form in November, to a major energy supplier. This will gain useful
  feedback as to market needs.
An approach has been received from a boiler controls innovator who wishes to collaborate with the
team – this is being considered.

Financial Evidence
Note any concerns over the adequacy of the supporting financial evidence and make
  recommendations to the Contractor/DTI.

Note whether the 85% spend limit has been reached by any partner.
No concerns for Q1 and Q2. Finances for Q3 will be reviewed with Len Eastell

Problems
