The average pH of rainw_ _ _ _ is about pH 5.6, which is slightly a _ _ _ _ _. This is because carbon

The c _ _ _ _ of acid rain is due to the air p _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ from v _ _ _ _ _ _ _, p _ _ _ _ s _ _ _ _ _ _

The effects of acid rain are serious. Status and buildings made of m _ _ _ _ and m_ _ _ _ _ will be c _ _

The harmful effects of acid rain are now a global problem. Many developed countries like U _ _ and

The average pH of rainwater is about pH 5.6, which is slightly acidic. This is because carbon dioxide is
dissolved in the rainwater to form the carbonic acid. When the pH is below 5.6, it becomes the acid
rain.

The cause of acid rain is due to the air pollutants from vehicles, power stations and factories where the
fuels are burnt. When the acidic gases like the sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are dissolved in
rainwater, sulphuric acid and nitric acid are formed, giving the acid rain.

The effects of acid rain are serious. Status and buildings made of metals and marble will be corroded
when acid rain falls onto them. It can also affect plants and animals. When acid rain falls into ponds or
river the water will become too acidic for the fish to live, thus killing them. The effect is similar to oil
spillage on the sea which kills the aquatic life. Acid rain also lowers the pH of soil, making it too acidic
to the plants, so they can not grow well.

The harmful effects of acid rain are now a global problem. Many developed countries like USA and
European countries are trying to stop the worsening of problem. Reducing the emission of sulphur
dioxide and nitrogen oxides form vehicles and power stations can help to solve the problem.
