Deadline extended to file Holocaust-era insurance claims
DENVER – The deadline to file Holocaust-era insurance claims has been extended to Sept. 20,
2002. The International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims (ICHEIC) extended the
deadline to allow itself sufficient time to publish additional names of policyholders on its website,
www.icheic.org, and to give adequate time to the public to review the lists.
Claim forms are available through the international commission. Consumers may call 1-800-957-
3203 in the United States or visit the ICHEIC website.
ICHEIC requires participating companies to produce available lists of Holocaust-era policyholders.
ICHEIC has posted thousands of names on its website and continues to update its lists as more
names become available. Provisions are also in place to provide benefits for those with claims
against companies no longer in existence or companies that were nationalized under communism.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners, several European insurance companies,
European regulators, representatives of several Jewish organizations and the State of Israel created
ICHEIC in 1998. The Commission is charged with establishing a just process that will address the
issue of unpaid insurance policies issued to victims of the Holocaust.
