FOR THE COUNCIL ORDERS-OF-THE-DAY SEPTEMBER 19,2005
Her Worship the Mayor
and Members of City Council
The Corporation of the City of London
c/o City Clerk Kevin Bain
Re: Animal Control Contract
We are residents and ratepayers who want London to be a compassionate city that
promotes adoption and spayheuter for companion animals.
We don't want healthy, adoptable dogs and cats to be routinely killed without sedatives
and for profit just because they do not have a home.
We want to know why the city pays over $1.5 million every year for a service that does
not provide a dog run at the pound, turns volunteers away, and does not seem interested
in helping animals.
Imagine London is the only city in North America with such an outdated and uncaring
approach to the care of abandoned and stray pets.
Our money should be better spent. Our animals deserve better treatment.
I do vote and I will be watching this issue closely.
