Now you can use your communication skills through an exciting new global IABC program called The Gift of Communication. The concept is simple: IABC members help nonprofit organizations solve their communication challenges. During a chapter-sponsored two-hour session, members sit at tables with representatives from selected local agencies, listen to their issues or questions, and provide communication counsel and support. IABC's social responsibility (SR) committee is encouraging chapters worldwide to conduct Gift of Communication programs either during the holiday season or as a unique professional development session. What's more, The Gift of Communication demonstrates what communicators do and how they add value. It has always been a challenge to find meaningful ways to promote their profession, says Michael Zimet, a member of the SR committee. Although The Gift of Communication can be conducted at any time, it seems to be "a natural fit" during the holidays, says United Way's McDougall, who is also an IABC member.
