Concerning that the exhaust emissions of the automotive became acute, as well as that the D.I. Diesel engines are available for the whole range of trucks and for almost 50% of the cars, diminishing those exhaust is a very important problem. The author has determined the influence of the geometry of the inlet manifold at a D.I. Diesel engine, equipped by spherical rotary valves, using the Finite Element Method. It was tested the influence of the inlet manifold geometry upon the swirl ratio. As a result of the tests, the author presents the criterions to choose the inlet manifold geometry, as way as the exhaust emission value to be minimal, with no effect upon the performances of the engine.
