Here's another: What do Jim Florio and Christie Whitman have in common?The re-election campaign of each was decided by a margin of about 1 percent. In 1993, Florio (for whom I served as communications director) lost to Whitman by that slim margin after he ushered in the largest tax increase ever in New Jersey. And in 1997, Whitman, who cut taxes by more than ever in New Jersey history, won a second term with only that same margin over challenger Jim McGreevey.
