Material Corrosion Issues for Nuclear Waste Disposition in Yucca Mountain

Two of the papers in this issue ('The Crevice Corrosion of Alloy 22 in the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository," by R.M. Carranza and "Localized Corrosion of Alloy 22 in the Potential Yucca Mountain Repository Environment" by X. He and T. Mintz) address the degradation of Alloy 22 via localized corrosion. Localized corrosion (crevice corrosion) may be the most troubling mechanism of failure for Alloy 22 in the laboratory.
