Defending Chanukah from The Latest Assault on Religion by Christopher Hitchens by ProQuest

Just as Alexander the Great and his successor imperialist regimes (the Seleucids in Syria, the Ptolemies in Egypt, and the Romans throughout the known world of its time) imagined themselves not as brutal conquerors seeking to exploit the peoples they were conquering but as enlightened liberators who would bring to the world their superior science and culture, so too the advocates of a clash of cultures or Norman Podhoretz's "4th World War" believe that they are saving the world from barbarism by imposing Western corporations, media, and culture, and the democratic system of the United States on the barbarians of the world (viz. anyone who doesn't celebrate and warmly embrace global capitalism and its political representative: the U.S. army).
