[...] THe Georgia National Guard soldier leaped at the chance to volunteer for Operation Jump Start (OJS), the Guard's mission supporting the U.S. Border Patrol on the Mexican border. Guard officials are already making those plans, says retired Col. David Lively, director of the current operations group at the National Guard Bureau. The Guard has been helping an undermanned Border Patrol, providing soldiers and airmen to fill in while the federal law enforcement agency recruits and trains agents.
