Norske Skog's Skogn mill near Trondheim, western Norway, found itself in the record books last October. The facility's Metso Paper StreamLine Pro wrapping machine provided newsprint rolls with kraft wrapper at a capacity of 190 rolls/hr, a new wrapping machine capacity record. At Norske Skog Skogn, the StreamLine Pro wrapping machine wraps all rolls from the mill's three paper machines, which produce a total of 600,000 tonnes/year of newsprint. The record-holding wrapping machine is fully automated and features Metso Paper's latest Onesider technology. The wrapping unit at Skogn is notable for following Metso's non-hydraulic principle: all functions that have traditionally been done with hydraulic cylinders are now performed with electric gear motors.
