Running a productive business and having a fulfilling personal life are usually incompatible for owners of small businesses, not because they don't get enough business, but because they don't know how to deal with the business they have. If small businessperson doesn't have the requisite management skills, he must seek out an advisor such as a consultant who can help organize the business so that productivity can be enhanced. This consultant must understand the business without necessarily being an expert in it. The consultant must analyze inefficiencies within the business as well as the owner's expectations for it. He must observe the business and see how it operates.
