Although much history has been written about Mennonites in Reformation Europe and the Mennonite experience in Russia, this book provides a glimpse into European Mennonites today. These Mennonites generally accepted conscription in the 20th century, but have been working towards a peace position in recent years. Where German congregations once supported the Nazi war machine, today they have organized a volunteer service organization called Christliche Dienste. The Mennonite Church in France has been growing since 1970; it no longer worships using die old Bernese German dialect, but holds services in modern French.
