Blood Bank of Alaska is a 24-hour service supplying about 29 hospitals in the state with their blood needs. There is high variability of when donors come in and relatively high variability in where the blood is needed. So if director of collection operations Roy Allen has to describe the perfect day, they would have about 115 donors present themselves throughout the state, which would provide at least three days' of blood, and they would provide them a high level of customer service so they'd want to come back again. Only about 5% of the people in Alaska and the lower 48 donate blood to meet 100% of the need.
