For the past ten years, our elementary school community has struggled to come up with and implement a workable fixed library media center schedule with some flexibility that still allows the library media specialist time to support authentic student learning. The model takes into consideration administrative factors and interpersonal factors as well as the reality of fixed specialist's schedules (library media specialist, music, physical education) and part-time library media specialists and computer specialists. Whether at a collaborative planning meeting or around the lunch table, the library media specialist must demonstrate a familiarity with both state and local standards as well as be armed with new ideas for projects that integrate information literacy into the curriculum.
