Innovation is Key in Printing Services
Installing Process-less Computer-to-Plate in January
ada. Memorial will be only one of a few universities who have embraced CTP to date. CTP technology is basically a new process of imaging plates for our presses. This overall CTP solution and its accompanying equipment will improve our workflow and quality substantially. Quality will improve as we eliminate film, one less generation of a file. Obviously eliminating film in the mix will lower the printing costs to departments as well. The process-less plate is just as it states. No processing required. Developer and fixer have always been a part of the plate-making Printing Services continues to acquire new technology to improve customer service, job quality, provide faster turnaround and find ways to cut costs both departmentally and to pass along savings to the university community. In January of 2006, we will be implementing CTP or Computerto-Plate technology along with wide-format proofing/ printing capabilities and wide format laminating. Our commitment to providing the Memorial community with quality printing and service continues as we upgrade our technology and lead, not follow, when it comes to universities across Canprocess but with our new system, there is no chemistry needed. This too is a savings but more importantly a substantial initiative in environmental awareness. The digital workflow accompanying computer to plate will reduce issues in pre-press. The workflow is PDF based, does automatic trapping and imposition and can print press-ready proofs. This will eliminate color keys from the mix and offer yet more savings to departments throughout the university.
is written and produced by Memorial University Printing Services and is meant to be a tool to inform and provide direction in prepress and digital publication issues. We do not profess to know it all, but with over 500 years combined experience in printing, we do have some insight to share.

New features are awesome!
Healing
The Spot Healing Brush is one of the most amazing additions to Photoshop ever. You must remember, from the earlier versions, just how difficult and time-consuming it was to remove something from an image either by cloning or using the lasso tool to manually trace the image. If you notice the picture at the right, I have removed a large rock (lower right) from the image and as well portions of the two middle legs. What normally would have taken a substantial amount of time now took just seconds. When you remove something with the Self Healing Brush, Photoshop automatically fills in the space with a sampling of pixels from around the area. As you can see it works beautifully. Try it for yourself. Look under Self Healing Brush in the Photoshop Help section.
