I am pleased to invite you to participate in an important initiative that will help Australia and help
your business at the same time.

As you would know, climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing Australia and the
world.

The Australian Government appreciates that like most Australians, small businesses are keen to take
action on cutting greenhouse gas emissions and in doing business more sustainably.

We also recognise that a lack of time, money and staff makes it difficult for small businesses to
know where to start. Also, due to the diversity of your sector, your energy and emissions are not
well known and you will need information, advice and tools that are directly relevant to your
individual business needs.

The Government’s Small Business Climate Change Action Initiative will support the needs of small
business in two ways – through identifying the major sources of energy use across the sector and by
providing assistance in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and costs.

We are inviting you to be one of the 500 small businesses taking part in stage one of the Small
Business Climate Change Action Initiative.

By participating in this initiative, your business will be offered free assistance in measuring your
operation’s contribution to climate change and on how to get started in reducing greenhouse gas
emissions. Your input and experience will help us help more small businesses across the nation.

I hope you will take up this offer. By doing things more efficiently across society we can all help to
reduce Australia's greenhouse gas emissions, protect our environment and save money at the same
time. A fact sheet outlining what is involved and how you can sign up to participate is enclosed.
